There was also a recent e-new letter I got recently talking about
the advanced features on cell-phones available in Japan.

The phones have all sorts of differnt options/features that are not
available in the US - BUT - the big difference is the consumer buys
the phone he wants - and the signs up with some cell provider.

In the US the provider sells you the phone and limits the features
available - so each year they can add something new and have you
upgrade the phone. 'Customer service' in this country means get as
much money as you can from the customer and make sure you always
have something new to be able to extract money on a continuing
basis. Many of the phones in Japan receive off the air TV from
what I've read.
