No need to get upset. I gladly stand corrected on the cleaned up
transfers issue. I still stand by the assertion that the area of
intended ratio is in dispute: not that they were definately intended to
be wide, but that the intended ratio is an area of some contention. The
fact that people are discussing it here, with intelligent arguments on
boths sides supports this. And yes, the film was shot open-matte as are
a huge number of films not intended that way. It is after all, a much
cheaper process to matte the film than buy more expensive filmstock.
