Don't know much about Xbox Live eh?
There are plenty of applications for this which are more attractive
than the schema that divx had.
It will sell, because now there is more things it can be used for.
A few I can think of would be:
Game tournaments. Big money tournaments on dedicated servers could
take place. Special versions of the game would be required to
participate which guarantee higher stakes tourneys. Unreal tournament
comes to mind. No further need to have conventions just to hold a
tournament. Or... the finals could still be held at such an event.
Game demos that load to hard drive, and allow some play. If folks
pay $15 a pop for magazines that have game demo disks, they might pay
for it direct from the makers too.
There are more.
