I don't disagree with any of that, but I just don't think that the "creative
talent" available for that remake were used to their best ability by working
on the movie in the first place, or in putting their talent to best use on
the movie itself.

There are a lot of other tales deserving of a movie, without rethreading the
same ground with different faces.
But of course there were obvious dollar signs and a readymade audience for
this one. No need to try too hard.

It's "interesting" to note the divergences from the original movie and book,
but other than that, I didn't enjoy it as a movie in its own right.
