I know when I tried to set "RGB" - I think in one of my DVD recorder
settings (Philips DVDR615), it did something very weird and I couldn't
see the image from my recorder properly - it just 'drifted' across the
screen for no reason and was unusable. I set it back to 'PAL' and left
it at that. The TiVo's also set to PAL.

AIUI, by not using RGB I don't get the auto-switching for widescreen
mode but then I can press that button on the TV remote without too much
hassle. :)

I don't really like things switching too much anyway, as the other
input going into the recorder is from the Nokia ONdigital box which
frequently needs a reboot after being on a BBC channel and that signal
then overrides the output from the recorder if I simply want to go into
the menu and edit a disc. I then have to put the recorder into standby
and on again so that it overrides the bloody Nokia box.

Some time ago I bought a SCART switcher box that goes into the TiVo.
It's mainly Sky, but before I got the recorder I also plugged in the
Nokia as an option and the third was spare. I made sure the box was
switched only by switches and nothing automatic - I don't want a ruined
recording just because one source thinks it's in the right(!)
