Most of the time it would be possible to watch Sky/RGB via the DVD
recorder, but an inherent problem is that with a lot of equipment RGB
is only available on one SCART, as either an input or an output. On
my Pace Digibox, for example, only one SCART can output RGB, and only
the same one supports the widescreen switching signal, so it makes
more sense to have that connected to the DVDR, which in turn goes to
the TV RGB-capable SCART. If both SCARTS on the TV set can cope with
RGB (and many can't), then yes, it would be possible to have a switch
routing the Sky/RGB to either it or the DVDR, but then you would run
into problems of where to fit the VCR into the equation without more
switching gear unless the TV has a third SCART or back-mounted phono
connections! On further reflection, in the above one could dispense
with the switch by having the Sky/Composite going into the VCR, which
would allow recording Sky to tape while watching something else on the
DVDR. The only thing that wouldn't be possible would be watching Sky
if the DVDR was recording off its own tuner, while the VCR was
recording something off analogue, but the reality is that if you want
to have all possible viewing/recording options, you have to spent a
lot of money on an elaborate cabling/switching set-up.
