Absolutely. An HDTV Image can be as large as 1920 x 1080, much larger than
the NTSC standard of 720 x 480. This means that HD is 6x the size of NTSC.
If you have a digital camera, you can see for yourself. Take the same
picture at 2 different resolutions. Try blowing up the low res image to
that of the high res and you'll see what happens to the quality.
I'm not saying that it's not being done as folks are doing conversions from
miniDV to film for festivals every day and showing videos on theatre-sized
screens. The quality loss is a decision you have to make after doing your
own testing.
