I use Premiere 6.5 and Windows 2000. Recently I tried to install
Premiere Pro, not realizing that I needed XP. It went through the
"preparing installation" process and then told me I needed XP and it
couldn't install. I clicked OK and it ended the setup. But ever since
then Premiere 6.5 drops frames like crazy. I have
uninstalled/reinstalled 6.5, no luck. I've also tried capturing with
DVIO (which Adobe's site reccomends) and it drops a lot fewer frames,
but it drops them nonetheless. I've got an Intel chipset so I'm using
application accelerator which reports both drives are in UDMA Mode 5.
I've got a Dell Dimension 4300, 1.6GHZ, capturing to a dedicated video
drive with about 20 gigs free.
Previously I would rarely ever drop a frame. I usually keep Premiere
set to "Abort on Dropped Frame". Any suggestions would be appreciated
as I really don't want have to reformat over this. Also, I haven't
defragged. I'm hesitant to do so because the last time I tried
defragging this system, defragmenter froze (not just slowed down, but
froze) and I had to restart which of course resulted in data loss and a
full reformat.
