Whoever told you that the Sony HVR-Z1 series camcorders (there are six
different models, intended for sale in different countries of the
world) record HDCAM was mistaken.
The HVR-Z1 series camcorders are tri-mode camcorders capable of
recording in ordinary DV mode (SP speed only), Sony's proprietary
DVCAM mode, and HDV 1080i mode (they can also playback, but not
record, 720p HDV tapes recorded on JVC HDV 720p equipment).
Sony HVR-Z1 series camcorders *do not* support HDCAM.
