ah memories of outdated technology. :)
That's why I try not to get to tied down to stuff nowadays be it either
hardware or software, cause
a new product can come along that does the job better and at a quarter the
price, so you can't live
with blinders on. I learned to always look around for new stuff coming out,
sometimes what they advertise
is just too good to be true, yes. But you never know for sure until you try
stuff.

Take for example the Plextor Convertex USB Hardware MPEG Capture Box, after
trying about 3 different external capture devices and almost giving up
because of poor design and bad software, I finally tried this Plextor 402U
unit, I like it. And with a rebate only cost me about $100.
I still haven't burned an actual DVD yet, but so far capturing shows inot
mpeg2 DVD format was fast simple and my adobe encore recognised the files
and appears to not need to encode the video, just the audio to ac3 and then
author. I think it will save me a lot of time for stuff off my cable DVR I
want to backup on DVD.

I have a standalone DVD Recorder but I don't find it satisfying. That's the
best way to put it. The DVD's just don't feel professional, maybe it's menu
structure, I'm not sure.
But now i think i found a simple solution. I'm not big on the new Divx and
Mpeg4 yet but this device is great for that I hear. 10 hours on one DVD,
there is progress.
:)

TonyP and Doc
