The part that's intersting is all the ways it looks "right".

My feeling is you have an encoding rate problem in the Dvd software,
are you using a constant or variable bit rate? Also, is the artifacting
more obvious on the stuff that was in a particular frame rate, say the
30 interlaced? Did you first make sure everything on the master was
finally boiled down to one frame rate?
