When you captured your footage on the PC system, you used a codec.
(whether you realized it or not) Likely AVI, Divx, I-264, or something
similar.

Macs are Quicktime native.

If you drag an AIV file into a Quicktime timeline you'll likely be asked
to render the video which is a hassle.

This is transcoding - re-compressing clips from one codec to another.
And it's a process that risks introducing errors that can leave your
footage looking bad.

Compression or codec incompatibilities can drive you nuts.

Unless you have a ton of clips, I'd just export a batch capture list
from your old software, and use the batch list to recapture the clips on
the Mac.

It's the best way to insure your video quality will be as good as
possible and your footage will work seemlessly with your Mac editing
software.
