I have tried quite a few programs for video production from the most
expensive to the cheapest. Most have pros and cons, from high cost to
limited functions. Thru the whole deal I have used Pinnacle Studio
from version 7 to 9 plus with a few purchased add on from Pinnacle. It
has been a rough road in video editing to the final DVD projects. Most
of my projects have been my 3 grandkids so it was worth all the
effort. I think we are blessed to be able to produce actual movies
footage that they will be able to show their kids and grandkids. I
have found that version 9 plus was stableto the extreme with almost
no major problems, and have done the best work with it.

I have always been a strong supporter of Pinnacle for their efforts to
produce a program that the average person could actually produce very
professional videos. I have a AMD 2800 with 1 gig ram and two very
big hard drives with a fast dvd burner. An ATI 9200 graphic card with
256 ram and a good sound system and a big 21 inch monitor all running
XP PRO. Never have I had a problem with the hardware other than the
normal long rendering times that are expected.

Being the brave soul that I am I decided to upgrade to version 10 Plus
with the multimedia. The price was right, especially with all the
extra including a 10 dollar gift certificate. I consider myself very
astute when it comes to solving problems and have a world of patience,
so off to the races with version 10. After a couple of problems with
installations which took a few hours of going to the pinnacle web site
and forum the programs got installed and all the activation of add on
programs things looked like it would be a breeze. Boy was I wrong.
As soon as I fired up the program it tells me that my video and sound
card are under powered and get the latest drivers from the web site
which I already had installed. So now I can only used video emulation
and may have trouble with smooth video. Still, I can live with that
so onward and upwards and full steam ahead with capturing a AVI video
from my sony MiniDV camera with not a problem.

Now I am ready to edit the movie and things still look good and added
it to the time line and it play perfect. Adding title and transitions
worked out fine. That is as far as I got. It was impossible to add
menus and chapters because all I got was a blank menu when it played
with colored lines where the menu should be. For the heck of it I
tried to render the video and burn it and all I got was either a black
screen and one time a real colorful pink video. Also I rendered it
with no titles or nothing except the actual video and it still would
only render to a solid color for the whole video.

I had shot footage for the local karate kids club so I was getting a
little pissed since I had uninstalled version 9 prior to installing 10
so it was back to the drawing board and uninstalled 10, searched the
hard drive for all references, cleaned out my registery of all
references and reinstalled version 9 Plus and am back to being a happy
camper and finished the projects without a hitch. In fact my video
card and sound card are happy with version 9 plus.

I think version 10 has a lot of potentials and may it will work with
extremly fast processor and higher end video and sound card, but it
really looks not quite ready for Beta testing yet. I am still willing
to wait and see, but unless you are willing to test it out without
being frustrated and do not have a high stress level then please use
it and work the bugs out for the rest of us.
