Just to toss in the latest news, TIVO just sent an announcement out that
anyone with a Series 2 DVR can now output in MPEG4 to a home computer
for storage and then download the TIVO recorded video content into a
Video iPod.
So clearly, the "buy from iTMS only" dam has broken.
I suspect that your portable video player will be accessible to many
sources of video soon (unless your service provider has done some
propriatary encryption.)
The TIVO announcement said that they are including digital watermarking
so that anyone who downloads then publically posts copyrighted content
will be trackable - tho as always, I wonder how many hours it will be
before some young hack writes a watermark stripper program.
Welcome to the future!
