Well, I used them both in the last month, so I better say something
useful here :-)

Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and Sony Vegas 6 have both similar core
capabilities. You can't go wrong with any of them. But remember they
are just tools of trade, so pay attention to thir relative strengths.

Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 has better integration with other Adobe
products, i.e. Illustrator, After Effects, Audition and Photoshop.
Sometimes you have no option but to go use those apps then return to
Premiere Pro. Also Premiere Pro can give you better hardware
integration with some proprietary hardware, meaning faster rendering
and faster live effects using boards like Matrox.

Sony Vegas 6 is has software-only rendering, which is achieved using
the main CPU (not the video card GPU). You can use Vegas 6 on basically
anything and it will just works, rendering time will differ only based
on RAM and CPU availability. Also, Vegas handles audio as easy as
video, so you won't need an external app to tweak your audio mixing.

Again, whatever is your use willdictate your purchase decision. If you
go the route of documentaries, music videos, feature movies I guess you
better choose Vegas. Choose Premiere Pro if you plan on adding plenty
of effects or plan on integrating into the workflow of a team of
musicians, graphic designers (or if you can really wear more than one
hat and are prepared to pay the corresponding price).
