Yes, DS8 has rock steady images. I had a Canon DS8 but sold it. That
was a great camera. Currently I have a converted Bolex with 3
beautiful prime switars. I have some K25 in there right now ready to
go for Christmas. I plan on getting it sound striped and transferring
the sound on later. I don't know about shooting negative film though.
Super 8 was meant to shoot and show. It doesn't stand up to the
transfer process very well. The only way to see on video what you see
when projected is to get a Spirit transfer or the like. These machines
run about $700 per hour. But if you're looking for supreme quality
you'd probably be shooting 16mm anyway. I believe there are some
Spirit machines out there that have a Super 8 gate. Not too many
though. A lot of other places use the Rank Cintel system. That's
cheaper and still pretty good. One of the biggest factors in transfer
is, like your original posts states, image steadiness. The transfer
process exagerates any uneven movement that might have been going on in
the camera. A LOT!!! If you are shooting to transfer go DS8. The
Beaulieu's are the steadiest and sharpest of the cartridge cameras. And
make sure you put the camera on a tripod and start and stop it with a
remote. You will love DS8. You'll never go back to the cart.
