Actually, if you have AC to both camera positions, there's a cheap
system called "Powermids" which are little low cost ($70 bucks or so for
both xmiter and receiver) units that take IR control signals and convert
them into RF signals.
You point your remote control at the sender - it RFs the signal to the
receiver - which converts it back into IR and as long as the camcorders
IR receiver can "see" the receiver, it'll get the control signal.
If you start and stop both cameras by RC at the same times - you should
have them at least roughly in sync.
Then have the wide field camera catch the field clock at least once
during each camera run so you can fudge the sync in post if necessary.
I used to use them in a computer group to operate a camcorder in another
room and it always worked like a charm.
Might be worth a try and you're not risking much coin.
