Diffuse the battery powered spotlight, or it will look horrible. Put
diffusion across the front, or put the thing insidea paper chna ball
from pier One, or bounce it off some white foam core.

As far as battery powered lights, a battery-powered flourescent will
run way longer and be softer, though the kind of fluro you get at a car
parts store will have a funky color balance... that can be adjusted in
post.
