Strange, I thought I already responded to this, but don't see my
previous answer...

which was, at the distances you are shooting from in the stands, why
can't you just set the Canon's to infinity on manual focus, and leave
them alone?

And it's not panning in and out, it's ZOOMING in and out. I'm a nut for
getting the terminology right, sorry, pet peeve of mine, damn civilians
use "pan"to describe every G.D. move there is...
