Thanks for the update Smarty.

I am happy to know that ULEAD will be supporting the HD format.

I still am unclear myself on what that it shall mean over the next
three-five years for me personally. Will I shoot and edit in HD, than
down convert to DVD? (I think probably)

Or will I shoot and edit in HD, and then save in an mpeg-4 format on a
much cheaper DVD-9? Will next gen DVD set top players support a HD
DivX? (This I hope for even more)

Either way, I am not sure of Blu-ray or HD-DVD in the near future,
unless it were attached to a game of some sort I suppose. But I hate
computer games so that is not a personal issue.

(As a side note, one can get a 1980's Atari 2600 flashback with 20
games built in for $30. I do kinda like that one! Nostalga with a
requirement for immagination.

)

What will be the durability of these new disks? Many of us have been
disappointed with DVDs compared to CDs. Time will tell I suppose. We
will know more in five years.

I do wonder if in five years that both Blu-ray and HD-DVD will be niche
products ala the laser disks of the 80's and 90's. Will the public
perceive the HD formats as being superior enough to DVD to warrant
investing in it? Will hybrid players help the new markets? (probably
not with dueling formats I surmise)

Don't mind me, I am still befuddled over all of this.

Cheers...

Mark
