That is very interesting. I will have to tell the participants on CD
Freaks.
Verbatim is owned by Mitsubishi Chemical Company, which has plants in
Japan, Taiwan, India and Singapore owned by others but licensed by MCC
to make Verbatim discs. I am told that these plants must conform to
MCC standards so the fact that discs have "Made in Taiwan" is not a
cause for concern.
Now it looks like TY is doing the same thing. I guess the pressure to
come down in cost was too much. At least the ones you have bear the
MID for TY and not some subsidiary plant, even though it is marked
Made In Singapore.
Check out the forum on this topic on CD Freaks.

Take a look at the survey on the first page. TY and MCC are the two
most widely used discs based on a survey of CD Freaks posters.
Sam's Club had a sale (it may still be on) - Verbatim 16x, 100 for
$41.50 or thereabouts (Made in Taiwan). I tested one with my NEC 3540
and Nero CD Speed tests at 16x, and it is high quality.
