In direct answer to your question on pausing to change tapes - the answer is
yes. With HDD machines such as I have (Panasonic E85 and E100 - replaced by
more recent models)) you can extensively cut and paste but you are limited
in building hi-tech titles and menus.
Put Canopus in your Google, there are various levels, my 100 cost about $240
in a discount house. Another observation, don't to DVD's through USB - too
slow for quality work. Canopus boxes are not PCI cards, they connect by
firewire.
My software problems finally resolved using Canopus' Let's Edit and Nero.
