Taiyo Yuden is one of the best manufacturers, and I've had brand
name disks that have IDed as Taiyo. They are about the most
expensive when you buy them by that brand name.

There are very few DVD manufacturers left in Japan BTW. Most have
been in Taiwan with some coming up on line in India.

It is so expensive to build a plant that some who used to make
their own get them from a major manufacturer. And you'll probably
NOT recognize the name of the manufacturer. The competition has
been so great that a handful of manufacturers make virtually all
the DVDs out there.

I've been using some Fuji lately that have been made by Ricoh [a
long time OEM for almost everything including printers that are
as large as my car]. My current TDKs are made by CMC - division
of Mistubishi, while the last batch of TDKs were made by Ritek.

And you can find different manufacturers of the same brand sitting
side by side on store shelves.

Most DVD burning programs will give you the manufacturer identity -
which is almost always not the sane as the brand on the disk.

As to TY - a local duplication house uses them for their best jobs.
You'll find the TY cost about 10 to 15 cents more per disk when you
buy them in 100-400 disk lots.
