I also have problems with certain +RW discs (of certain brands).
I haven't tried Memorex. What is the ID?
I also have a Plextor 716A. I started to have problems with too many
individual discs from a new spindle so I started to check the quality
of the burn with Plextools.
Instead of waiting for read errors in the read back test, you can
check the quality of a written disc with Plextools "TA test" and
"PI/PO test".
Some discs show high PI error rate already at the second write, while
others continue to give low values.
I have made a note to stay away from eProformance 4x (ID= PRODISC).
There were individuals in the packs that performed well also after the
third write but far too many (say 2 of 5) went bad already after
second write.
I tried these discs also in another computer with a NEC writer which
also resulted in bad quality. So I don't immediately suspect the
Plextor writer.
I have better success with Maxell 4x and Traxdata 4x (they are the
same with ID= RICOHJPN W11).
Now I'm into Sony 4x (ID= Philips 041-00) which looks promising.

Me too.
