Hi,

I went to delete a program and the system hung. Nothing worked. All keys
were dead. Unplugged the unit to turn it off. When I plugged it back in,
the unit powered up with an HDD ERR in the display.

The TV screen had the following message:
The Hard Disk Drive info is incorrect.
Use the Disk Setup Menu to reinitialize.

Does this mean I have to reformat to resume functionality?

Is there a sequence that resets the machine to factory presets?

Are there any hidden remote control or front panel sequences that can get
me into a maintenance menu for the hard drive?

After more thorough reading of the manual I found this. "The Picture
freezes and the front panel and the remote control buttons stop working:
Press Standby/On for 10 seconds until the power switches off". Well
here's where I unplugged the unit, but after about 5 minutes. It took me
an hour of scanning the manual before I found that message. But would
that have fixed the problem?

Currently all the files are intact and can be played. But it won't let me
copy them to a DVD disk, or record any new programs.

I can't afford to lose all these files but I can give up some of them. Is
there any way to recover without reformatting the drive.

So far Pioneer has no solution except to reformat and hope for the best.
They don't guarantee that will work. But they do guarantee that all the
files will be lost.

Any technical advice would be appreciated.

uH
