Sorry, I got confused. I did read your post and understood the basics
 of what you were saying.

I tried so many combinations of using various utilities in various
ways that I have lost track. All I know is that there is a very
serious bug in MF4 which even VRD cannot correct.

Some might argue that the clip was defective, but I remind everyone
that the clip did not appear defective. It ran in everything I tried
except MF4 where it nearly crashed it. In fact when a program stops
responding that means it has effectively crashed.

The original disc was two-sided. One side was NTSC and the other PAL.
I do not know where the recording was made - it could have been Europe
or Britain where PAL is used. The producers could have converted it
from PAL to NTSC leaving some kind of residue that cratered MF4 but
did not bother all the other applications and devices I tried it with.

If I had a digital cable I could have connected the player to the DVDR
that way and then the copy process would have been no different from
importing it from a DVD burner. I used the highest resolution on the
DVDR to do the recording, which came out remarkably well considering
the transfer was thru analog composite cables. My point is that
correcting a problem with this technique is not any different than
using a personal computer to fix things.

I have a 16 MPG files which were exported from MF4, each with 3
seconds of text on them. They are used in the final composition with
MF4. I suppose I could import them into TDA and use them to build the
DVD. Presumably TDA would construct the menu from the first frame,
which has the title name. Then it would play the selected clip which
continues displaying the text for 3 seconds.

IOW rebuilding my DVD in TDA may not be any big deal after all. I will
consult your procedure that I snipped to see if there are any tricks
 of the trade.
