For most people, their time is "free" compared to a $100 hard drive and
the cost of losing the data.

Mirroring is not backup. Anyone who thinks so is just fooling themselves.
When the hard drive controller loses its mind an re-formats your disk,
you've lost your "backup".

If you are thinking about "admin" issues, then you don't care about the
cost of backup...you have a DLT tape drive with autoloader that backs up
your SAN. For personal backup, inexpensive is the key.
