Maybe it does work. The USB port is really meant for exporting stills.
Have you tried it for that?
If you want to get quality video into the PC, you need to add a
firewire card. I don;t think you will find a different camera that does
what you want via USB.

My second Sony also came with USB canle and no firewire cable. The
cable cost me a big $7. I have had that camera for over a year and have
yet to use the USB port.
