I only have an inexpensive ILO DVDR05MU recorder ($99 at Walmart).
It records in the normal DVD format. Last night I hit the record button
and recorded for about a 10 minute session onto a DVD+RW and here is what
i see when I look at the disc on my computer.
There are 2 directories on the DVD... "VIDEO_TS" and "VIDEO_RM" with the
following contents...
In the VIDEO_TS directory there are:

6 File(s) 324,239,360 bytes
There is also a directory named VIDEO_RM with the following contents:

I don't know what the VIDEO_RM files are but the VIDEO_TS files are the
normal DVD files and I have no problem editing them with my computer DVD
utilities such as "Tmpgenc DVD Author" and "Womble MPEG Video Wizard".
The first time I tried to import a VOB file I thought the computer had
crashed and I re-booted, but I then discovered that it had not crashed at
all. It just takes a long time to import the VOB file from a DVD+RW disc
as opposed to a VOB file on a Hard Disc.
The files also play on a DVD player just like a normal DVD.
