No reason not to record HDMI if the HDCP is absent. That's what would be
the case if non-protected video is coming over, such as from home-made
videos, local TV station productions, etc. But when the HDCP is present,
the recorder would be expected to comply with whatever setting is in the
HDCP data, if the recorders knows HDCP (won't get usable video if not as
I understand it).
