 The earlier Digital camcorders all had firewire and no USB. There were
 also digital still cameras that came with memory sticks and USB ports
 for loading pictures to the computer. Then someone decided that people
 might want camcorders that could also take still pictures and began
 adding USB ports as well as firewire. The last Digital camcorder that I
 bought was this kind and came with a USB cable (no firewire cable and
 no memory stick). I do not care about that function and so have never
 bought the memory stick, nor did I ever bother to load the software
 disk. When I want digital stills, I use a digital still camera. I can
 see how it could be confusing.
