It means "Manufacturers ID", which is written internally. You need an
"info tool" to read it. It, and the country of origin, are the only
things you can count on to identify the actual manufacturer and disc
type.
For example a disc that has TYG03 is made by Taiyo Yuden (TY) and is
their 16x -R. The package will tell you that it was MIJ (Made in
Japan).
It used to be that each country had its own unique MID but that is not
necessarily true anymore. So you need both pieces of information to be
sure what you are getting, unless like TY it is only made in one
country.
