Hi
My set-up involves a Sony DVR HX715, a Sony Trinitron, and a digital
cable box (not HD).
1. The DVR is connected through its Line 1 Video/Audio output to the
Cable Box.
2. The DVR is connected through its Line 3 Video/Audio output to the
television, with the exception of the video jack. For this, I'm
running an S-cable between the DVR and the TV.
3. The Cable Box's OUT TO TV is connected to the TV's TO VHF/UHF
IN.
The DVR comes with a Set Box control, which allows one to control the
cable box through the DVR's remote control. I got this to work after
struggling with the Motorola folks.
So when I move through the DVR and TV's inputs, the outcome is
basically the following ("WORKS" means the channel tuned through
the box comes in):
DVR TV
Video 1 Video 3
L2 Nothing WORKS
L3 Nothing WORKS
DV Nothing WORKS
L1 WORKS WORKS
What I can't figure out is how to separate the channels, i.e., to
record one channel while watching another, which the guide says can be
done. If I tune the Box through the DVR, and then change the channel
through the box (so that the numbers are different), the DVR records
the channel displayed on the box, ignoring its own (displayed on L3).
Then, if I go through the inputs on the DVR, when it gets to L3, it
changes the box's number and the channels get coordinated. Surfing
through the TVs own inputs never modifies the channel.
The bottom line is that I'd like to know how to "split" the
tuning of the channels, so to speak.
