Assuming you mean stand-alone vs. PC-based.

Had a Philips DVDR985 for 3 years. Seems I had some small problems in
the first year, but that was corrected with firmware update--easy to do.
Then, it began going South after 2 1/2 years--AND, when I didn't renew
the warranty!
