I think I messed around with this on my panny on an rw, just erasing
some programs one at a time in any order and as long as they are ALL
erased, or erased from the last downwards to the first, all space is
recovered. I think formatting is easier though and probably quicker
too.

On another machine the RW discs acted like RAM discs on the Panasonic
but had to be formated in VR mode, rather than the normal Video mode.
They could then be messed around with in the same way as a RAM disc,
where you could swap running orders and stuff.

Panasonic only seems to offer Video mode, which is why it is so
restricted.
