The way I test for subjective comparison is to put the DVD player on
4x zoom which highlights any quality problems instantly! I use a
hardware MPEG encoder which allows one to change the capture bitrate
for DVD from 6K to 5K or 4K etc for long stuff, and that gets me over
the length/packing quality curve quite nicely without using Shrink
often.
Keep us posted as to your final method with MPEG4 as result of your
testing! Always interested in real practical experience!!
