Try anothe website, AVS Forum, for information on DVD Recorders.
Panasonic DVD recorders have the option of recording sound in the LPCM
format (CD quality) at the XP 1 hour setting. Panasonics can improve
the look of some VHS tapes when converting them to DVDR. I have seen
that myself with my DVD recorder, with the video going in the composite
(not s-video) input of the recorder.
