Here's one that will have you scratching your head. The Panasonic
DMR-E500H is an example of a DVD Recorder with a 400 GB HDD and an
Ethernet port. But guess what...according to the manual, the Ethernet
functionality only allows the Recorder to talk to another Recorder of
the same exact model, so that recorded content stored on one
Recorder's HDD can be 'played' via the other Recorder. That's a great
idea by itself, but why in the world didn't they include a full IP
stack so that PC's and other network-capable devices would be able to
interact with it? Seems strange to me.
