They want to sell more of their machines.

The ideal set top box is a simple DVDR with TCP/IP (Ethernet, USB,
PCMCIA) and a DVD player only. All storage and DVD burning is done at
a computer on the network. The unit has all the AV and TV capabilities
of a DVDR minus the onboard recorder with one exception - three TV
channel recording at the same time.

That unit would sell for under $50. With a WiFi connection it would be
an instant winner.
