No sooner did I post the above comment than I reaized that we are
talking about a hard disk and not a DVD disk. Of course the
reclamation process is seamless - that's how disk operating systems
work.

So in response to your earlier comment, namely " the space from
anything deleted is made available again" I should have noted that "of
course it is available again - that's how disk operating systems
work".
