On 12/3/2005, Brad Curfman managed to type:

A number of programmable remotes (mostly not cheap, and never very easy
to set up), have a macro capability, where a sequence of commands can
be attached to a single key.
Some have a few keys at the bottom that can accept macros, some can put
a macro on just about any key, and all combinations in between occur.
Here are some remotes that I know can accept macros:
One-For-All URC 9910 has three macro keys (as do many related
One-For-Alls, and many related Radio Shack remotes).
Universal Remote Control MX-500 has three dedicated macro keys, but you
can add macros to certain other keys as well.
Philips Pronto Remotes. The latest models can put a macro on any button
(they have some hard buttons, but also, you create your own buttons on
an LCD panel)
Plus whatever I don't know about.
You could find and buy the cheapest remote with at least one macro key,
and program that key for the purpose. You don't even have to use the
remote for anything else :-)
