No - any SD (Standard Definition) picture upscaled to HD (High
Definition) will look poorer than if it had been left alone. Buy a $40
player with RGB and/or component output and let the TV handle it - after
all, that's why you bought an expensive TV in the first place. Who
would know how best to make the picture look good on your TV: a
third-party company who have never *seen* the TV, or the people who made
the TV in the first place?
Remember that salesmen in shops are not your friends - of *course* he's
going to express shock that you didn't buy a $500 DVD player; you're not
giving him as much commission if you 'only' spend $200. I'll bet he
told you that you 'needed' $300 oxygen-free-copper unidirectional
gold-plated cables, too?
