Hi Folks:
A little experience I had today may help you make a decision on
selecting a DVD player . I bought a display model of Radio Shack's
Axion 10" DVD player/TV. It played boughten DVD's fine, but the ones I
burned would play for maybe 5 seconds, then halt for about a
half-second and continue like this through the DVD. It was missing a
remote so I went back to Shack and asked them for one. They couldn't
find it, or had a way of ordering another remote. I went to another
Shack and bought another whole unit, this time new. This one looks
identicle, but plays my DVD's fine. The brightness control on this new
one doesn't dim the backlight, but just changes the bias on the
display. In a dark room, the black-level is bright. If the brightness
is too far down, it just looks like a negative (bright one). The first
units' brightness controlled the backlight and looked more natural.
The new unit also draw's 2.5A where the older one draws 1.7A. (both
12V) The new unit appears to have one pixel dead (blue) where the
first unit had a few blemishes, mostly around the edges. You'll need
the remote for some of the setup's (mainly, TV channel learning). It
comes with a very cool case and straps for attaching to the back of a
car seat I guess. There is a 90 degree elbow for an antenna (F
connector - no antenna included) and cables to input or output video
and stereo sound. Also included are the AC power supply and a lighter
adapter for the car. I'm bringing the first unit back to Shack.
Take Care!
Harry
