I had the same problems with pauses near the end of movies.

What I found is that it appears to be incompatabilities between the
media and the drive. May also be the speed at which you burn the disk.

With my first burner, I was using DVD-R disks and was getting pauses. I
changed to DVD+R and the problems went away. I have been using +R disks
for some time now.

I recently changed to a newer burner and ran into the same problem.
After looking into everything, I decided to try DVD -R disks. This
again solved the problem.
