Quite wrong. Some combos (the JVC DM-MV1 comes to mind, I have one) will
let you dub a tape to dvd-r by pushing two buttons. You can also record on
both the VHS and the DVD-R at the same time, different programs, two tuners.
However, if what you want to transfer is copyguarded, you can run the
composite AV signal vhs line out to the front AV input via a scrubber or
"video stabilizer". Choose that input for the DVD-r, push play for the vhs
side, push record on the DVD side, and record away. Most el cheapo combos
dont have seperate AV outputs for the vhs and dvd side, and its an important
feature to look for.
