My DMR-E80 works quite well, but does have one irritating attribute: The
response to the controls (remote or pushing buttons on the panel) is
the slowest and most annoying of any electronic device I've ever owned.

Push the "open tray" button - you might as well go to dinner. It takes
forever to respond, and once it starts working on opening the tray, it is
single mindedly focused on doing just that. You want to switch from hard
disk to DVD while waiting for the tray to open - too bad. It does one thing
at a time, and it does it like it is a mechanical computer engluphed
in molasses.

Channel surfers trying to use it as a tuner would go insane. Until it
finishes painting bit by bit the on screen channel display for the new
channel and makes sure it is posted on screen long enough for even the most
distracted person in the room to notice it, you can't switch to a different
one (sometimes forcing you to watch Oprah for whole seconds at a time :-).
