**When a DVD recorder behaves in that manner, you should always try a
different brand disc. My Panny e85 hates TDKs, it will reject the
discs outright after about a minute. I find it works best with discs
made in Japan (MiJ) thought they are becoming exceedingly harder to
find on store shelves. Also, the ES40V might work fine with discs made
in Taiwan, just not the TDKs.
