You have red, white and yellow (video) going from OUT on the back of the VCR
to IN on the DVD recorder, and another set of red, white and yellow (video)
going OUT from the DVD recorder to the IN on the TV?

When you play a DVD from the DVD recorder, can you see it OK on the TV?

If you are trying to play a copyrighted tape you may be having a problem
with macrovision, although you should be able to play tapes recorded from
the TV.
