Glad you got the major problem figured out. Too bad you had to go thru the
trouble of returning a (we know now) good recorder.

The problem you are experiencing now is likely our good friend Macrovision.
It is a nice jamming system that will toss in just enough bad video to make
copying a tape useless. There are devices used to scrub the Macrovision
signal, that can be found.
