I have a Pioneer 510H-S

It was an upgrade from an early Panasonic DVD recorder (DMR-E20?) that
I had. Overall I like it better. The big feature is variable recording
speeds, although I'm sure this is common on all units these days. Back
in the day you were locked into 4 recording modes (well 3 really as
'EP' was horrible sub-VCD quality) so that meant if you had a 2h10m
movie you were screwed. But not you can set recording quality levels in
15 minute bursts which means you'll get optimum quality on anything.

Anyway, the Pioneer records well, has a decent DVD editing capabilities
and makes some pretty nice menus (mine gives you 9 templates, which
while generic look pretty nice complete with thumbnails). The 80GB hard
drive is nice because you can dump movies onto it and then edit and
record multiple copies later. For example I have a few home movies and
a couple of Laserdisc conversions I just leave on the HD as i'm always
burning extra copies. My Pioneer has a 4x burner so it can do a DVD in
about 15-20 minutes or so which is plenty fast for every day
applications.

I'm not sure how much of this is apples and orange with the unit your
looking at, but i'd imagine they are similar. I did like my previous
Panasonic as well, but that was so many generations ago i'm sure its
not relevent.
